Märklin Digital Decoder Chips

Table of Contents

Glossary

The meaning of the table entries is:

chip number: the number that identifies the chip
case: the housing of the chip. DIL is the large case for "through-hole" insertion, SO is small-outline for SMD technology
analog detection: if yes, the loco automatically behaves like a conventional loco on analog track
signal inversion: exchange of red/brown track connection so that signal is inverted
signal format: can be either Motorola 1 or Motorola 2. In Motorola 1 only aux. function, speed, or direction change can be signalled. In Motorola 2, additionally direction and f1 - f4 can be signalled
aux. function f0: the auxiliary function, usually used for direction dependent head light. "protected" means that the driving transistor and overload and short circuit protection are built into the chip
ext. functions f1 - f4: extended functions f1 - f4, only possible in Motorola 2 mode
internal motor driver: if yes the motor driving stage is built into the chip and no external circuitry is required.
internal motor control: if yes the motor control to achieve constant speed is built into the chip
internal accel./decel.: if yes the motor acceleration and deceleration is built into the chip
speed levels: 14 or 27. By coincidence, chips understanding Motorola 2 provide 27 speed steps.
reverse lock: if yes, at speeds above 6 (of the range 1 - 14) a direction change signalled in Motorola 1 is ignored.
use: the decoders where this chip has been used
